Museum of Transportation

We used a Groupon for the St. Louis Museum of Transportation the other week. Here we are walking up to the visitors' center.

Riding the train!

Megan in front of the tiny locomotive that pulls the train we rode.

The car above is a Suburban. Not quite the same thing that my parents use to pull their camper.

We spent some time in the Creation Station room. It was like preschool center time on steroids, with a transportation theme.

Hot weather, dentist visits, and a brazen kitty

It's been hot here. The temperature sensor for this thing is in the shade, and it was still 102 degrees on this particular day.

Megan and I both visited the dentist this week for cleanings. No cavities for either of us, and she picked these glasses out of the prize box. Gorgeous, huh?

Kitty flagrantly breaking the no-sitting-on-tables rule.

Kitty looking half-dead snoozing on the floor, because it's always more comfortable sleeping with your feet in the air.

Happy Fourth of July!

We headed out to see some family on Grandpa Bill's side for the Fourth yesterday and we spent part of the afternoon swimming in their community pool. Grandma Cathy got sunglasses for the grandkids.

All slathered up with sunblock and ready to swim.

Megan swimming with Grandpa Bill.

Megan and I made homemade bomb pops back at home.

Our last project of the day was making lightsabers with Josh. He found instructions online and made them out of a paper towel tube with a printed lightsaber handle design pasted on. The pink part is rolled-up poster board.

Homegrown carrots

Here are some of the carrots from our garden. Yum!

And this is my new fun baby product: a simple, inexpensive sling. Abigail spends so much time perched on my hip that my arms need a break, and she's getting too tall to carry in my trusty old Baby Bjorn carrier. We tried this out at the library this evening. It's amazing how much easier it is to use the self checkout kiosk when I have an extra "hand."

How we cope with 100-degree temperatures

The temperature has been in triple digits for almost a week, and it's not cooling off anytime soon. Here are the girls enjoying some pool time. Abigail likes sitting in this floaty crab because her feet touch the bottom of the pool and she's able to walk around.

We also set up a smaller pool so Abigail could sit and splash. She liked chewing on the hose while the pool was filling.

Grandma's new toy

We picked up this water table at a garage sale today. It's for my mom to keep in her yard for all the grandkids. (Hi, mom!) We tried it out this evening, since it probably won't make the trip up to my parents' house before the fall anyway. The girls approve!

Reaching

Megan has been trying to reach these things on the swing set for the past year, ever since we got the thing. She's tall enough this year that she can sometimes grab a ring if she jumps just right.

Got it!

I got the idea to play with toothpicks and mini marshmallows from a blog I regularly read, moneysavingmom.com. Megan was trying to make people here. We also made cube-shaped houses, a fish tank, and a porcupine.

Megan at 8 months, with purple dress

Here is Megan in our back yard in September of 2008. She was two days shy of 8 months. Scroll down to the following post to see Abigail in the same dress, sitting on the same white blanket, with the same purple doll, at just about the same age.
