Happy Thanksgiving

We had a nice Thanksgiving yesterday. We spent the morning putting up Christmas decorations at home, and we ventured out to Kmart because the idea of going to one of the few stores that's actually open on Thanksgiving is fun. Megan wore a turkey shirt she painted in her Sunday school class. We really like the children's ministry at church.

Shortly after arriving home from our Kmart trip, we got our first snow of the season. It was just a dusting on top of two straight days of rain, but still pretty. Megan immediately asked if she could go play outside.
Megan also was thrilled with all our Christmas decorations. She's a big fan of dioramas and model train scenes, so she loves my Christmas village. I'm glad to have a garden window/greenhouse window over my kitchen sink because little fingers can't reach up there. I was able to fit my entire village there when I realized that our dining room hutch was no longer a safe place this year. Megan likes pulling a chair up to the sink to look, and she still can't reach it, so it's a win-win setup for us. And yes, that is Ralphie's house from "A Christmas Story" on the far right.

Yesterday evening, we went out to enjoy a turkey dinner with Josh's mom, her husband Bill, and all Bill's extended family. Josh's siblings from Kentucky also drove in to join us. Megan's favorite food at last night's meal may have been the deviled eggs. She ate at least three of them through the course of the evening. Here she is "dancing like a ballerina and falling down."

Gobbler cookies

We're celebrating Thanksgiving with Josh's mom and her new husband's family tomorrow, and we made some whimsical turkey cookies to bring to the get-together. We made the same cookies for our church's Thanksgiving dinner this past weekend, and there were none left over to bring home. I gave Megan her own cookie to decorate however she pleased.
Here are the finished products. Super easy to make, and fun for the kids to eat.

Pumpkin painter

We have never carved pumpkins with Megan because I prefer to hang on to our gourds through Thanksgiving and continue to use them as decor. Since we'll be bringing out our Christmas decorations this week, I let Megan have some fun with our pumpkins before we get rid of them. She really got into painting them last night.

Lovin' on mommy

Megan was especially cuddly after a nap this past weekend. Thought this picture was really cute.
Megan often dresses up like she's about to go out shopping. Here's the ensemble she created for herself last weekend.
Also last weekend, Megan was digging through our cabinet full of movies and requested to watch this:
We thought it was too funny to see a two-year-old asking to watch Terminator 2. It'll be a while before she sees this one.

Butterflies and bouncing

Megan and I went on a return visit to the Butterfly House the other week with a group from library story time. We love the Butterfly House and Megan is very careful with the butterflies ... but this time she accidentally stepped on a butterfly. There are always a few sitting on the walkway and I've seen several people nearly step on them during my two visits there. A staff member saw Megan step on this particular butterfly. I was apologetic. He said not to worry about it and simply picked it up and gently set it on a leaf nearby. It certainly made our morning interesting. The following picture was taken only moments after Megan stepped on the butterfly.
After our visit to the Butterfly House, we spent some time on the playground outside. Megan loves trying to swing like a big kid.

Here's Megan showing off her trampoline skills while wearing new jammies. We got a card in the mail for $10 off a purchase of at least $10 at Khol's, so the jammies were practically free.

Little Ladybug

Here are a few photos from our church's fall festival on Halloween. They had trunk or treating, games, a chili dinner, and pie and cake bake-offs. Megan came home with tons of candy.
Playing the pumpkin ring toss game.

At one point while trunk or treating, Megan was asked if she knew any Bible verses. She'll start learning those next year when she joins AWANA.
At this table, Megan picked a duck from the bucket, read the number on its bottom, and selected the corresponding amount of candy from the box.

Pumpkin Patch

Here are some of the better pictures from our trip to the pumpkin patch a few weeks ago. This is Megan with her friend, Cosette.

A new blog, and hopefully fewer glitches

Welcome to our new home in the blogging world. Here's to hoping Blogger is more user-friendly than Xanga.
