Children's fair

This morning I took Megan to our school district's annual children's fair, geared toward the preschool crowd. They had games, crafts, sensory tables, sidewalk chalk, and bubbles for the kids to enjoy. They also had emergency vehicles, a school bus, and construction trucks for the kids to look at and sit in along with face painting, temporary tattoos, and lunch- and snack-type foods (available with a ticket they handed out at the door), all for free. Megan had a great time.

Here's Megan enjoying one of the sensory tables filled with birdseed, little scoops, and plastic bugs.

Playing outside.

Checking out the fire truck. The firefighters and EMTs were very nice and offered to lift her up into the driver's seat so I could take her picture, but she was nervous about letting those guys get too close, so I had to climb up with her and help her up.

They had a school bus, complete with seat belts for the younger crowd. Megan talked all morning about wanting to sit on the school bus, and she was so proud of herself after she climbed into the seat and got buckled in.

We also got to look around inside an ambulance. The EMTs told her she could lie down on the bed, but she told them it wasn't dark outside yet.

The police truck/tank was a popular vehicle to explore.

Megan picked her snacks carefully. She chose a snow cone and cotton candy, which was a novelty for her.

She got a tattoo on her hand and chattered for a long time about how she had to hold still and how the water they used was "a little cold but it was okay."

Ta da!

And then we stood in line to get Megan's face painted, but when it was her turn, she was hesitant to let the girl touch her face, so she got her other hand painted instead.

The finished product.

Easter weekend

Here are a few photos from the weekend, including Megan enjoying a chocolate bunny for breakfast.

Megan was all ready to hunt for Easter eggs at Grandma Cathy and Grandpa Bill's house Saturday. Megan also had fun playing with Bill's other grandchildren, and we enjoyed burgers and hot dogs.

And she's off to find the eggs at Grandma and Grandpa's house ...

Easter morning at our house. It's become our tradition to take pictures of Megan next to our flower pots full of pansies. The flower pots look a little smaller every year.

Hunting for jelly beans at home.

And a nice family photo.

13 weeks

Here's me at 13 weeks. No real bump yet, but my regular pants are too tight to be comfortable.

And here's Megan sporting a silly face and wearing a dress her grandparents (my parents) got for her. We went to an Easter celebration at our friends' Mike and Mary's this afternoon, and she wore this.

Butterflies with Aunt Becca

My sister, Becca, is visiting us for Easter weekend. She arrived Wednesday night, and we had planned to spend yesterday with Megan at the St. Louis Zoo, but the temperature in the morning lingered in the 40s and low 50s, so we opted for an indoor activity. We went to the Butterfly House, located in a park that includes a nice playground and an antique indoor carousel. Afterward, we ate lunch at the nearby Sweet Tomatoes. It's a restaurant I'd been wanting to try for a while, and its main feature is a huge salad bar. Delicious!

Here are some Canada geese with babies just outside the Butterfly House.

Megan admiring the waterfall and butterflies.

Butterflies eating bananas.

Lots of beautiful orchids.

Megan in a bubble, surrounded by giant cockroaches! The Butterfly House has a small collection of various other bugs like these guys, tarantulas, millipedes, centipedes, and miscellaneous beetles. Sorry about the glare.

Megan and Becca also had fun on the playground outside for a few minutes.

And we saved the carousel for last. We love this because it's only a dollar per person per ride!

Bug boxes, birthdays, and visitors

Here are a few photos from this past week. The first is of Megan enjoying a bug box my parents gave her. We found some type of beetle perched on the back door last weekend and I put it in the bug box. Megan loved looking at her bug, but I'm not sure he survived for long. I later found leg pieces inside the box.

Megan looked cute in this sundress last Sunday, so we snapped some pictures.

Josh's birthday was Thursday, so I picked up fixings for mushroom and Swiss burgers (his favorite), corn on the cob, and roasted seasoned potatoes.

Last night, we hosted my Aunt Debby and her (and my dad's) cousin, Linda. They were on their way from Texas to Indiana to visit family, so they stayed overnight at our house to break up their trip.

Aunt Debby gave Megan a very fun playset with reusable stickers. This kept Megan occupied for a long time this afternoon.
