Shiny new oven

The oven that was in our kitchen when we moved in five years ago broke a few weeks ago. For the third time since we've lived here. Rather than continue to throw money at the thing, we opted to get a new oven from Sears. They were out to install it this past Wednesday, and that evening we made biscuits and gravy for dinner. Here's Megan posing with our new oven while the biscuits are baking.

Doll School

Megan and I needed something to do yesterday. After browsing online for ideas, we made this preschool classroom out of a diaper box. The walls are lined with construction paper, and I Googled images of classroom bulletin boards and posters and printed them to paste on the walls.

We printed a calendar/weather chart (pasted on the lower right corner) so the dolls can learn the days of the week.

I also found an image of backpacks hanging in a row, so we printed and pasted that, too. We're going to spend today decorating the outside of our schoolhouse box.

Zoo Day

We visited the St. Louis Zoo yesterday and spent most of the morning in the Children's Zoo.

Megan played in the pretend animal hospital area.

Megan petted a skink named Chaucer.

We watched an animal show in the Children's Zoo and Megan got to volunteer and go on stage.

The girls pulled a rope that opened a door to release a bunch of white birds, seen as small blurs on the left side of this photo.

Megan the river otter.

Megan was more interested in the Children's Zoo playground than in any animals.

Petting a snake.

This is a view from inside the new Sea Lion Sound exhibit, where you can walk through an underwater tunnel and see sea lions swimming around you. Megan was thoroughly unimpressed and claimed it was too loud and echoey.

My girls are getting eaten by a hippo.

Megan liked playing in the farm area and pretending she was Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Farewell, Fishie

Our goldfish, Winchester, died the other week. He was approximately 6 to 7 years old and had lived a pretty long life for a fish. Megan was one sad princess. (There were many tears.)

Abigail: Someone get me out of here!

We love snuggling and reading around here.

Abigail has discovered she can climb into the kitchen cabinet.

And of course Megan had to join the fun.

Fifty cents will get you a Spider Girl dress at a yard sale.

Pile on the cat!

And last, Megan won an attendance prize in Sunday school this past weekend. She was tickled.

Elmo's Chili

We checked out a Sesame Street cookbook from the library and made several recipes, including "Elmo's Chili" pictured here. It has zucchini in it, and a few chocolate chips! Megan sliced the zucchini and helped dump cans of tomatoes and beans in the slow cooker, and we threw in a sweet pepper from the garden.

Megan took a word book and turned it into a play center for her Little People. This page with a cutout view of a house became the dollhouse. Megan also made her people play on the pages with a school room and a park.

Cute finger-food-munching baby.

Baby Behind the Wheel!

Abby thinks it's a blast sitting in the little Cozy Coupe. She cries when it's time to get out.

Hugs are nice!

Too much hugging!
